We pay attention to sustainability

One of our evaluation criteria is whether our providers value sustainability — so you can make a choice that feels right.

Read more about it

1. Area of cover

It is most important that you are covered globally — not only in the country where you live, but also when you travel, and in your home country.

2. Product features

You want comprehensive cover for emergencies and for planned treatment: outpatient, inpatient, dental, maternity and evacuation.

3. High-cost treatment

Most claims are small. What matters is what happens when a serious illness or accident suddenly needs long, expensive treatment.

4. Price — your health, your investment

Every provider offers a wide price range. But don’t be fooled by “cheap”: nothing is more valuable than your health.

5. Exclusions & waiting periods

Understanding what is not covered is as important as understanding what is — sometimes even more important.

6. Underwriting

Insurers ask health questions to assess your risk. How they handle pre-existing conditions makes a real difference.

Travel insurance or international health insurance?

The most common mistake: moving abroad on a travel policy. Here is the difference at a glance.

Travel health insurance

Made for holidays and short trips.

  • Usually needs a registered home address
  • Limited to weeks or months
  • Mostly acute emergencies

International health insurance

Made for living abroad — what we compare on ipmi24.

  • Long-term or unlimited duration
  • Planned treatment, not just emergencies
  • Stays with you when you move on

Questions we hear every day

Is ipmi24 free to use?

Yes. Comparing and the consultation are free for you. If you take out a policy, the insurer pays a commission — it is not added to your premium.

Do I need to leave my email to see the ratings?

No. All ratings and comparisons are open. You only share contact details if you want a consultant to call you or you want the guide.

Can I get cover without a registered address?

Some international plans accept you without a home address, others don’t. Your consultant knows which ones.

What does “worldwide excluding USA” mean?

You are covered everywhere except the USA (often also Canada), usually with short emergency cover there. Including the USA costs considerably more.

What about pre-existing conditions?

Insurers handle them differently — exclusion, surcharge or waiting period. Our guide explains the underwriting options.

Who advises me?
